If you want the AI to select the awards, simply ignore the option. |  | Monday, October 24th, 1977: Kaat Takes Place Among Greats Today Jim Kaat attained the highest honor a player can get in the Kirk Gibson Memorial League -- he was admitted to its Hall of Fame.
His exploits on the mound are legendary. Year-after-year Kaat was one of the league's elite pitchers with 249 total wins. Baseball greats of the past and present were in attendance at this year's ceremony. Friend and foe alike had nothing but good things to say about this year's honoree.
A manager, who Kaat played for, described his pitching success this way: "Jim always had good stuff and good location. His ball would start out looking like a baseball and when it got to the plate -- it looked like a marble."
When he retired from baseball at age 38 with a career 249-203 won-lost mark, Kaat had pitched in 623 games, fanned 2242 batters, tossed 3884.1 innings and posted an impressive 3.32 ERA. |  | Sunday, October 23rd, 1977: Tomlin Re-ups with Automakers for 2 years Team officials were upbeat today as Dave Tomlin signed an extension with the Automakers.
