In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Starffin.
His manager described him this way: "He's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy. He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
The Newark skipper said, "He doesn't give you anything twice. It's a guessing game with him and today my club was always guessing wrong."
Checking out his stats for the season, Starffin has racked up 23 wins and 13 losses in 40 starts, 2.47 ERA and struck out 289 batters in 331.1 innings. | | Saturday, September 17th, 1977: Bears Get Shutout Win Over Atlanta Cy Young bent a little, but he didn't break against the Rebels. Season-to-date Young has rung up 24 wins and 7 losses in 35 appearances. He has an ERA of 2.43 and has fanned 205 batters in 274.1 innings. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 92-70, .568 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 13.0 GB | | Record at home | 47-34, .580 PCT | | Record on the road | 45-36, .556 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 13-5, .722 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 32-22, .593 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 24-20, .545 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 68-50, .576 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in May | 18-11, .621 PCT | | Record in June | 14-11, .560 PCT | | Record in July | 19-10, .655 PCT | | Record in August | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in September | 9-14, .391 PCT |
