| Breaking News |  | Saturday, October 22nd, 1977: Houston Offers Extension to C Houston Razorbacks catcher Johnny Bench and management are close to an extension, note SION insiders.
Each party appears willing to accommodate the other enough to finalize things within the next week or so, though no final salary or contract length has been leaked to the press.
So far this season Bench has gotten 122 hits in 483 at-bats for a .253 batting average with 22 home runs. His stats include 69 RBIs and 66 runs scored. He has played in 126 games. |  | Monday, October 3rd, 1977: Fuentes Tags Bears 5 Hits 5 hits in a game doesn't happen every day. Houston's Tito Fuentes had a very special day against the Bears when everything came together for him and he did just that -- collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats -- and led the Houston Razorbacks to a 17-7 win at The Hunting Grounds.
"I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Fuentes said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats today. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em."
T. Fuentes hit a two-run single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off T. Murphy in the 8th.
In 1977 Fuentes is batting .330 with 3 home runs and 45 RBIs. |  | Tuesday, September 27th, 1977: ESC Batting Title Belongs to Cobb Houston's Ty Cobb completed the season in style by winning the East Side Conference batting crown. He claimed the coveted title by hitting a solid .370 for the year.
