It appears to be only a rumor, but earlier today, fans around Seattle were buzzing with the news that their 35-year old first baseman Jim Fregosi had been asking for a trade. "I couldn't imagine him saying bad things about Seattle or wanting to leave." said one person. |  | Thursday, September 15th, 1977: Shortstop Garry Templeton Hurt Garry Templeton at first refused to leave today's Portland-Seattle game after he suffered a tender elbow while throwing the ball. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I'm a competitor," the feisty Seattle shortstop said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Templeton out of action for 2 weeks.
So far this year Templeton is hitting .316 with 9 home runs. |  | Wednesday, September 14th, 1977: Templeton on Rampage Against Plutocrats! "Believe it or not," said Seattle shortstop Garry Templeton, "they threw me some good pitches today."
That would be hard to believe for anyone who saw him dispose of the Plutocrats with a great 5-hit performance.
"He made it look easy," said the Portland manager, who saw his team fall to the Seattle Pilots, 5-0.
"Hats off to him!"
