| Breaking News | | Saturday, October 22nd, 1977: Barons Beat Cows in Round 3 It was a storybook year for the Boston Barons as they closed out a 4-0 series win over the Fort Worth Cows to claim the 1977 Round 3. They wrapped it up with a 6-5 victory to cap an incredible season and brought home their 1st championship.
The Barons manager gave his view of the series, "We had a lot of things going for us, offense and defense doing it at the right time. That's what it takes win a Round 3."
"We're disappointed we lost, but we're also very proud of what we did all year," said the Cows manager. "They played better baseball than us and they beat us."
During the East Side Conference Northeast Division regular season Boston put up a 105-57 record and finished first. | | Sunday, October 16th, 1977: Bell Sensational, 5-5 The Cows whipped the Armadillos 15-7 at Fort Worth Stockyards and James Bell had a big hand in the win. The Cows center fielder came to the plate 5 times and collected 5 hits. It was a good day for Bell and a tough day for Austin.
"I just go up there and whale away and hope it hits the barrel of the bat," he said. "There really isn't any plan."
Plan or not, Bell delivered today -- 5-5 is outstanding in any league.
J. Bell singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off G. Pentz in the 7th.
