Today the Janissaries [BKN] downed the Savages [OAK] 9-4 as Phil Roof sprayed hits all over Porpoises Ballpark in a 5-hit explosion, finishing up with 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
The Scottsdale catcher said to SION reporters in the postgame interview, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of very pretty pitches to hit today, and I didn't miss any of them."
P. Roof singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th and singled in the 8th.
So far this year Roof is batting .387 with 3 home runs, 24 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

| Monday, August 8th, 1977: Roof's Strong Week Earns SL2 Trophy
All week long Phil Roof was the toughest out in the Sub League 2 and that is the prime reason he was voted the Player of the Week.
The Scottsdale catcher rapped out 10 hits in 20 at-bats for a .500 batting average, drove in 7 runs and scored 3 times.
So far in 1977 Roof has hit .354 with 3 home runs and 21 RBIs. He has played in 35 games and scored 21 times.

"Believe it or not," said Scottsdale second baseman Gary Sutherland, "they threw me some good pitches today."
That would be hard to believe for anyone who saw him dispose of the Savages [OAK] with a great 5-hit performance.
"He made it look easy," said the San Lorenzo manager, who saw his team fall to the Scottsdale Janissaries [BKN], 15-5.
"Hats off to him!"
To date, Sutherland has collected 68 hits for a .245 average. He has posted 6 home runs, scored 35 runs and driven in 30 runs.
